Blog Topic #2: Can I get a resource?

Blog Topic #2: Can I get a resource?

Design and development for the Internet is a dynamic and constantly changing field. As technologies and practices change, designers need to be able to keep up. The fact is, nobody can know everything. And, there's always someone out there who knows more than you. Given this, the web design community has always been very open to sharing information and inspiration. As a designer, it's important that you learn where to find sites of information, inspiration, and resources.

Your task: find a resource and share the love. Find a site that provides i
nformation, tutorials, forums, stock resources (photos, audio clips, movies, etc.), scripts, downloads, articles, advice, design tips, or links to well-designed and inspiring sites. Tell us what the site is about and how it is useful and include a link to the URL.

Flash gaming is a very popular interact media on the web today if you look most if not all sites have some type of game on them. So I decided to choose http://board.flashkit.com/board/forumdisplay.php?forumid=5 as a resource forum site based on what it had to offer the forum members. At Flash Kit Community-Games you are able to read other forum members ideas as well as post your own for critique. The site also offers ways to obtain more information if your answer is not found, most likely someone will point you in the right direction. With further browsing the site you will also find a library of past forums related to flash and flash game design. I believe that it is always good practice to bounce ideas off of fellow colleagues because at some point one of us has came across that type of issue in our design practices and we can all help each other.

Blog Topic #3: What is RSS?

On many blogs and CMS systems, you have the option of publishing a site feed which will create an XML version of your blog for RSS syndication. What is RSS? How is it useful and/or being used? How can you use the RSS feed to track updates to your fellow student's blogs? What's an aggregator?

RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it. Aggregator refers to a web site or computer software that aggregates a specific type of information from multiple online sources:

* News aggregator, a computer software or website that aggregates news from other news sources.
* Poll aggregator, a website that aggregates polling data for upcoming elections.
* Review aggregator, a website that aggregates reviews of movies or other products or services.
* Search aggregator, software that runs on a user's computer and fetches, filters, and organizes a specific search from various search engines.
* Video aggregator, a website that collects and organizes online video sources.
* Wellness Aggregator, a virtual clinic that integrates a variety of Health and Wellness modalities for people seeking to improve their health and wellbeing.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregator). Rss is an extremely useful tool when information is needed quickly and is dynamically changing. It will automatically check for updated information and have it read and available for the requesting party. RSS feeds is a good way to check for updates to your favorite websites, without having to visit each site individually. Saves time in a very busy schedule and life on the go.
